We left Hope this morning about 9am. We drove to the Fred Meyers at Eagle River and fueled up. I put in 84.88 gallons at $3.529 per gallon but I got a discount of 10 cents a gallon on the first 36.1 gallons so the total was $297. This was the first fuel I had purchased since we stopped at the same Fred Meyers on the way down the Kenai on 28th of June. I had traveled 555.41 miles so I got 6.54 mpg which is really bad until you factor in we dry camped 12 days that I ran the generator several hours a day. I would estimate I used at least 12 to 14 gallons for the generator.
We are at the Grand View Cafe and RV Park at milepost 109.75 on the Glenn Highway or Highway 1. We have full hookups for a change with 50 amp electric. It was $31.50 with our Good Sam discount. We are only 9 or 10 miles from the Matanuska Glacier so we drove down to the viewing area which is still quite a ways from the glacier but it still was a good place to see it. One of the information signs said that 75% of all the fresh water in the world was in glaciers and that 10% of all the land area was covered with glaciers. It said if all the ice melted, the oceans would raise 275 feet. It’s good to know this glacier is fairly stable. It isn’t growing or shrinking and hasn’t been for the last 400 years.
