Day 48, Soldotna Again

Yes we are again in the Fred Meyers parking lot in Soldotna but before we left Anchor Point this morning we made a side trip to Nikolaevsk, Alaska.  Nikolaevsk is a small village that was founded by people of Russian descent.  It is off the Sterling Highway west of Anchor Point on North Fork Road about 10 miles or so.  There isn’t much there except for the church.  On the way over to the town we were all speculating about how and when the town was founded.  I thought it may have been there when the USA purchased Alaska from Russia.  Turns out the church was built and the town was founded in 1968.  I have no idea why but bet it would be an interesting story.

On the way back to anchor Point we saw a Moose.  Guess it was a female since it didn’t have any antlers.

Since we didn’t leave the Bee Hive Campground heading for Nikolaevsk until about 10am, it was about 11:30am when we got back to Anchor Point.  Yep, lunch time.  I had read in a blog that I am following that the hamburgers at the “Big blue Bus” were great so we gave it a try.

Gary and Mattie had the Mexican Burger with lots of Jalapenos Peppers and Twila and I had the Bacon Cheeseburger.  You talk about good.  Just looking at the picture makes me hungry again.
