Yup! Mattie was not feeling up to traveling this morning so we just paid for another day. We were just lazy most of the day but about 3pm Mattie felt better and wanted to take a drive up the valley from where we are camped. To get there we had to backtrack back up the highway past Hope and take a campground road up a mountain. It was close to 7 miles to a small campground and then we went maybe another 6 or 7 miles on what was posted as an unmaintained road. It wasn’t too bad, just a little rough in places. It went most of the way up the valley to a box canyon. It reminded me of American Basin in Colorado but believe it or not it was not as pretty as American Basin. This is a picture from where we had to stop since the road had a gate across it.
This is a picture of the American Basin. Hope you can see the similarities.
On the way back I got a picture of the Turnagain Arm from up on the mountain.
It was an interesting trip and I think everyone enjoyed it. For another trip I don’t think we would allot more than 1 day at Hope and we might just park at a turnout about a half a mile from the Sterling Highway on the road to Hope and just drive up to Hope instead of taking the RVs.
