Day 17, Whitehorse, Yukon

Before I forget it again I need to thank Gary and Vicki.  They have a very popular blog called werewinginit.  http://www.mytripjournal.com/werewinginit

I had contacted Gary and told him I was doing the Alaska blog and he put my blog address in his blog.  Wow!!!  Our readership went up about 1,000 percent the first day.  Thanks Gary I appreciate riding on your coat tail.

I left early from the RV Park and went downtown to the only filling station in Skagway.  The price for diesel was $3.848 per gallon and it took 42.91 gallons for a total of $165.18.  We had gone 319.75 miles since filling up at Watson Lake.  This equals 7.45 mpg.  We left Skagway and did the 10 to 11 percent grades and they weren’t that bad.  We just used lower gears and didn’t try to go too fast.

I guess I’m going to have to check the post offices and see if my picture is posted because guess what, we got searched again at the Canadian Border.  I guess it is being full time in a motor home.  This guy was real nice however.  He said we sure had a lot of stuff.  We stopped for 15 to 20 minutes in Carcross and then drove down the highway for about 5 miles and stopped at a small eating place on the side of the road.  We had Chile Bean Soup.  Wasn’t much of it but it sure was good.  $6.95 per small bowl with a slice of bread.

Gary called the Ford Dealer in Fairbanks, Alaska to see about having some new pre-heaters put in his pickup and they told him it would be July before they could do it.  He then called the dealer in Whitehorse, Yukon and was told they would work him in.  We are now parked in the Pioneer RV Park about 2 miles from Whitehorse.  We will be here for at least 2 nights.  We have really good and fast internet here. Gary took the truck down to the Ford Dealer and left it.  We didn’t know if they would start on it today or Tomorrow.  Gary got a rental car and we will split the cost.  When we drove by in the evening to go eat supper the truck was still outside so it looks like tomorrow.

We went to the local Boston Pizza in Whitehorse for supper and everyone is stuffed.

We have now gone 3327 miles since leaving home.
