We did manage to get one more breakfast at the Tags Cafe before we left this morning. Gary had already filled up his truck the day before so after getting everything wrapped up I pulled around to the diesel pumps at Tags. The price was 1.089 per liter which times 3.78 equals $4.116 per gallon and I put in 310.38 liters or $338 Canadian Dollars for 82.1 gallons. This fill up plus the last partial fill up made 127.99 gallons and it was 962 miles so I got 7.51 mpg which wasn’t too bad since I had run the generator quite a bit.
We crossed what I believe would have been some of the prettiest country on this trip. I say I believe since it was rainy and foggy a lot of the way.
We crossed the Teslin and Nislutlin Bay Bridge which is the longest bridge on the Alaska Highway. It is 1917 feet long. This is where the Teslin River and the Nislutlin Lake come together.
We finally crossed the Continental Divide but it was nothing like we have seen before. If they hadn’t told you, you wouldn’t have known it. The interesting part is that the water flows to the Arctic Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
We had originally planned on staying at Johnson’s Crossing RV but weren’t ready to quit when we got there. We then thought we might stop on the side of the road but didn’t find a place we liked. We finally decided to stop at Tagish RV in Tagish, Yukon. Tagish is on the cut off between the Alaska Highway and the South Klondike Highway that goes to Skagway, Alaska. From Lake Watson to the campground was 239 miles. Tagish RV is a quite little RV park with 30 amp electric only, no water and only a dump station. It was $26.25 Canadian. The owners of the park were from Germany and were very friendly and informative about the area. They had quite a sense of humor and we enjoyed visiting with them.
We drove Gary’s truck up a nearby mountain to a fire watch tower and microwave tower. There is no telling how far you could see but it was spectacular. Ken, the man who kept watch for fires at the tower came out of his house and visited with us. He was quite a character and we enjoyed visiting with him,
We are easily entertained as you will see in these pictures.
It’s not too often you see a two story outhouse.
