Day 79, Wrangell

Some of you might be wondering why we are staying as long as we are at each stop.  It is all dependant on the ferry schedule and the fact we have never been to some of the stops before this visit.  Simply stated, some of the stops you either got back on the next day or you wait 3 or 4 days for the next ferry.  If I were planning the trip again I would have some stops shorter and some the same.  Even the stops I would plan shorter have been enjoyable.  We have no problem just laying back and taking it easy for a day.

Today we decided to do the loop road through the national Forest on the South end of the Island.  It was about a 20 mile trip with most of it on a one lane gravel road.  There were plenty of pullouts in case you met another car, which we did about 3 times.  There are some campsites with room for even large RVs but they are quite a ways from town but most are overlooking the ocean.  As usual I took a few pictures.

Tomorrow we leave for Ketchikan however the ferry isn’t scheduled to leave until 7:45pm and will arrive in Ketchikan at 1:45am.  We plan on getting off the ferry and driving to Wal-mart to spend what is left of the night and then checking into a campground the next day.

  1. Hello! I am Tracy from The Dales Trails and saw that you were a new follower of my blog. I then saw you had a blog. I just read through your travels,(enjoyed the blog)and see you also had a rough time of it with the rain in Alaska. When in Soldotna, I was told it has been the coldest and rainiest July in many many years. Figured! We are taking the Alaska Hwy back to the US and am glad we found your blog for some suggestions for the way down. Taking the Marine Hwy was a wonderful idea. Maybe if we are fortunate enough to return to Alaska in the future, we will do that.
Thank you for following our journey and I will continue to follow along while you are "livin the dream".
