Before we left Wrangell we went to Rainbow Falls. It was another highlight of the visit to Wrangell. They don’t say much about it and it is a little hard to find but is well worth the effort. There is a sign but it is back in a hollow of trees right off the highway.
Be forewarned, it is 6/10 of a mile to the falls and to the first viewing platform it is 583 stair steps, mostly up and most don’t have handrails.
Now that I’ve warned you, If you can do it, do it. It is beautiful. Actually beautiful doesn’t do it justice. The foliage is unbelievably lush and the different types of lichens, mosses and small plant are numerous.
So after enjoying all of this you finally make it to the viewing platform for the falls.
The falls are 100 feet tall and and much prettier than the picture can show.
How’s this for truth in advertising?
Gary again had to back his trailer onto the ferry. Now they know he can it so they don’t hesitate to ask him.
We got into Ketchikan at 1:45am and drove directly to the Wal-Mart for the night. Tomorrow we will go to a campground. We are thinking about a National Forest Campground North of town since we will be able to get in for 1/2 price with our Golden Age Passport.
