Today is our last full day in Sitka. The ferry is scheduled to leave tomorrow morning at 8:15am. Since we are only about 1 block away from the ferry we won’t get in any hurry to get over there. We plan on dumping at the dump station and topping off the water tank before getting to Petersburg.
Mattie and Gary came over to the motor home this morning between 9:30 and 10am to tell us they were going into town to the emergency room to see if they could find a doctor for Gary. When they got back, about 2pm, they said the doctor said Gary had bronchitis and gave him a prescription for a one a day pill that costs $15 each. Wow!!!! Hope it works.
We then loaded up and went back into town. We first went out to Whale Park which is suppose to be a good place to watch for whales. We walked down to the bottom of the stairs, didn’t see any whales and then figured out we had to walk back up them.
Next we went to the Sitka National Cemetery.
Last we went to the Sitka National Historic Park which is run by the National Park Service. The park preserves the site of a Tlingit Fort and a battle between the Russians and the Tlingits in 1804. We watched an interesting film about the battle and then went out to look at some Totem Poles. It is normally a $4 admission but we got in free with our Golden Age Passport. Someone really put a lot of effort into making the Totem Poles.
As we were heading back to the truck we came around the corner of the building and right next to the bay we found at least 8 to 10 eagles feeding on some fish scraps. These are really magnificent birds.
We won’t know until we get to Petersburg if we will be able to find Wi-Fi so it might be awhile till my next post or with luck maybe not.
