Day 78, Wrangell

Today we went to Petroglyph Beach here at Wrangell and we weren’t disappointed.  It is the largest collection of Petroglyphs in Alaska.  No one knows how old they are but some think they could be over 8000 years old.  They also have no idea why they are on the beach.  It could be something important happened on this beach or maybe as simple as being a waiting point where people just doodled or scribbled as we do sometime.  What ever the reason I imagine they would really be surprised at the attention they are getting now.  There are reported to be at least 40 of them on the beach.  We didn’t find that many but there were lots of them.  Here are some of the pictures I took of them.

While we were on the beach, one of the ferries came by.  It was the Taku.  All the ferries are named after a glacier.

They have a plant up here that is a lot like the Spanish Moss that grows in the South.  It is called Gray Beard.
