We went to the Marine Museum in Corpus Christi today. I forgot my camera so I didn’t get any pictures but I hope to get some from Dewayne Jackson as soon as he gets back to Oklahoma. Twila and I had never gone to the Museum and it was really interesting. They had the replica’s of the ships that Columbus used to discover America. The ships were made to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the discovery of America in 1492. They were made as close as possible to the actual ships using wood from the same forests. Only two of the ships are at the Museum. The third one is on the dock along the private ship dock at down town Corpus. It was amazing how small they were. The men didn’t even have an enclosed sleeping area. They slept under the over hang of the front and back upper decks or on the floor of the main deck with no cover.
After the Museum we went to the Big Tree. It is a Live Oak that they say is over 1000 years old. It is on Goose Island East of Fulton, Texas. I still didn’t have my camera but Barbara Miller did and I downloaded the pictures she took.
We had eight of us that went to the Museum and the Big Tree. This picture is of, from the left to the right, Bert and Jana Huffman, Me and Twila, and Dewayne and Vicki Jackson.
This is Barbara and Jack Miller.
This was a sign next to the tree.
